The Saudi Athletics Federation was established in 1963 and was named as the Saudi Arab Athletics Association” and officially joined the International Athletics Federation in the same year. the Saudi Arab Athletics Association joined the Asian Athletics Federation as well in 1976 and the Arab Athletics Federation in 1975. The association was also a co-founder of the Organizational Committee of the GCC countries in 1985.
