Space for peak shows
The Rio 2016 Games provided the perfect environment for the best performances. Athletes enjoyed world-class facilities, including a stunning village, all in one of the most beautiful cities in the world, carefully designed for maximum comfort.
Tight planning
The competitions were concentrated in four regions: Pará, Copacabana, Deodoro and Maracanã, all of which were connected by a high-performance transport network. Half of the athletes were able to reach sports facilities in less than 10 minutes, while about 75 percent of them were able to reach their sports facilities in less than 25 minutes.
Facts about the facilities
Of the 34 competition venues, eight were permanently constructed, seven were temporary and nine were constructed as permanent heritage sites.
Rio in the spotlight
The Rio Games celebrated as well as showcased sport, thanks to the city's stunning environment and a desire to take the presentation of sporting events to new heights. At the same time, Rio 2016 was an opportunity to present the broadest aspirations for the long-term future of the city, region and country, and an opportunity to accelerate Rio de Janeiro's transformation into a greater global city.
