About the Games
After winning the file Winter Olympics 2026 With the right to host the Games secured on June 24, 2019, during the International Olympic Committee session in Lausanne, the Winter Games will return to Italy for the third time after 1956 Winter Olympics and2006 Winter Olympics. The tournament will take place from February 6 to 22, 2026, with the participation of the best athletes in ice and snow sports from around the world.
The Milan Cortina d'Italia 2026 Games carry a vision based on sustainability, innovation and making use of existing facilities, with the competitions distributed across several cities and regions in northern Italy, reflecting the unique character of the Games and enhancing the country's sporting, economic and tourism legacy.
The Games will feature 16 Winter Olympic sports, with the inclusion of new competitions that reflect the evolution of the Olympic program, bringing the number of events to a new record in the history of the Winter Games.
Three competition zones
The 2026 Games feature a wide geographical distribution of competitions across two main regions: Lombardy and Veneto, in addition to venues in Trentino and Alto Adige.
In the city MilanThe economic capital of Italy, the main ice competitions, including figure skating, short track speed skating and ice hockey, will be held, taking advantage of modern and state-of-the-art facilities.
As for the city Cortina d'AmpezzoLocated in the heart of the Dolomites, it will host the women's alpine skiing competitions, as well as the ski jumping competitions (snake, bobsleigh and luge), building on its rich heritage as a former Olympic city.
in Burchio di LivignoThe freestyle skiing and snowboarding competitions will take place, while the city hosts Brissanon Biathlon competitions, and hosts Val de Vime Nordic cross-country skiing, ski jumping and Nordic combined skiing competitions.
The advanced transport system in northern Italy, including the high-speed rail network between Milan and the mountainous regions, helps facilitate the movement of athletes and fans between different competition venues.
A renewed sports program
The Milan Cortina 2026 Games will see the addition of new events to the Olympic program, most notably the debut of Ski Mountaineering, reflecting the International Olympic Committee’s commitment to developing winter sports and keeping up with modern interests.
The Games also continue to promote gender equality and increase the number of mixed-gender competitions, as part of a global trend towards more balanced representation of both male and female athletes.
