The Olympic Park is in the spotlight

The 2012 London Games were held around the Olympic Park in east London, which included a number of new sports facilities. Nearly 180,000 spectators visited the park daily to enjoy the games, making it the main hub of Olympic activity. Thanks to a network of pedestrian bridges and walkways within the park, it was easy to reach the main facilities, most notably the Olympic Stadium, the Aquatics Centre, the Velodrome, the BMX arena, in addition to the hockey, handball and basketball courts.

Not far from the Olympic Park, the Olympic Village was set up close to all the stadiums and facilities, which enriched the experience of the athletes and officials. Highlights of the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games were the use of other prestigious venues, such as Wembley Stadium for football, the All England Club at Wimbledon for tennis, Lord's Cricket Ground for archery and Horseguards Parade for beach volleyball.

Cultural games

The London 2012 Games included cultural games held every four years. The Cultural Games culminated with the Opening Ceremony of the Olympic Games on 27 July 2012, kicking off a 60-day festival of sport and culture across the UK and spreading the Olympic and Paralympic spirit around the world once again.
